You are probably aware that most people feel better and lose body fat when they cut gluten from their diet.

What you might not realise is that all grains are problematic for most people…not just the classic gluten containing grains.

Why is this?

Partly it’s because there is a lot of confusion over which grains contain gluten and which ones do not.

Many “gluten free” people continue to eat oats and quinoa because they have been told these two are gluten free.

There are two major problems with this logic. The first problem is that most people feel better, have more energy and less body fat, when they eliminate ALL grains INCLUDING oats and quinoa.

We have seen many clients over the years who were unable to get rid of their symptoms (and body fat) until they cut oats and quinoa from their diet. This is partly because oats and quinoa do contain a form of gliadin which does cause significant health problem in many people.

Gliadin is the relevant offending sub fraction of gluten.

When someone says “I’m gluten intolerant” it’s more accurate to say “I’m gliadin intolerant”. The second problem is that all grains – even rice and corn, which are truly gluten/gliadin free – are simply delivery vehicles for huge amounts of carbohydrate.

Most people do not do anything like enough exercise to burn off the carbohydrates that they get from their daily grain consumption. Unless you are doing at least 60mins of HARD exercise every day, you should cut ALL grains from your diet and get your carbohydrates from vegetables.

How many times do you follow your own healthy eating rules?

It’s easy to do and easy not to do especially when you’re trying to lose 10, 15 or 25 pounds.

Right!

Remember this… Weight loss focuses on calories in; calories out. Fat loss focuses on hormones. If you eat more food than you think you should, however foods you eat are nutritionally dense, calorically spark, have plenty of protein and fiber you’re good to go!

Let’s see if a few of these rules will help you achieve your goals faster.

#1 EAT 4-6 MEALS A DAY

This will keep your mind balanced, hormones controlled and attitude in check.

#2 CUT OFF THE FRIG AT 8PM

Digestion essentially shuts down when you’re sleeping, and it’s in your body’s best interest to speed food through the digestive tract so that you have as little contact with waste as possible. This is not a good fat burning strategy. When you go to sleep your body is trying to repair the tissues secreting HGH (human growth hormone) and getting your mind right for the next day. Nobody gains a lot of weight overnight; it happens over time.

#3 ONLY BITES RULE

This is for starches and sugars. The major trigger for insulin release is starchy foods and sugar like bread, pasta, potatoes, cookies, crackers, rice, etc.,. It’s really a NO brainer if you eat to much your body is going to just store more fat. Only eat 3-15 bites if you choose these foods.

#4 EAT THE RIGHT FATS

Eating nuts, seeds, avocados and olive oil (extra virgin) are healthy fats. Your body needs these fats to help make hormones. When you eat 10-15 almonds or walnuts 25 minutes before a meal it will help you control your portion sizes… in essences you will eat less.

#5 EAT LEAN PROTEINS AT EVERY MEAL

When you eat lean proteins it releases glucagon, which in turn helps control insulin spikes. If you eat all carbohydrates in your meals you may feel tired and sleepy. This is because your body is trying to balance your blood sugar with insulin.

#6 USE BARS AND SHAKES FOR QUICK MEALS

There are many options to bars and shakes… look at sugar content. If it’s 15 g or higher I usually put it back. If you have something higher in sugar or high glycemic after a workout it’s ok. I had a Mix 1 protein shake from Whole Foods the other day. It was made in Boulder, CO… so I tried it since I’m from CO. lol! It was pretty good… mixed berry. Remember a lot of these bars and shakes are peer marketing and pricey. In the end… don’t be lazy; plan, prepare and cook your own food.

#7 LEARN THE LABLE RULE

Are you going to store fat or burn it?

If you subtract fiber and protein from the total carbs on the label, the total should equal 10 or less… the lower the number the better. The fat content should be less than 15 or it will not help you manage your fat loss goals.

#8 AVOID FOODS THAT INCREASE HUNGER

Make a note of all foods that make you hungry in 15 minutes after eating them. Did your meal have enough protein or fat to make you feel full? Coffee has a tendency to make people hungry. Usually if your on the go or if you always reach for quick carbs… most likely you’ll be eating another handful within 10 minutes. Best bet… drink 8 oz of water instead.

#9 ALWAYS EAT BREAKFAST

Ironically, those who are not hungry in the morning probably have an increased stress response and will benefit even more.

You’re getting the body ready for the day… and remember toast, bagel or donuts and coffee is not a breakfast. gimmy christmas!

If you’re a roller coaster in the mornings now you know why. Your blood sugar is all over the place.

You ever try eating 1/4 cup quinoa, 1/3 cup blueberries, 1/3 cup greek yogurt and 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds. Its easy and complete!

#10 NEVER LET YOURSELF GET HUNGRY; EAT EVERY 2-4 HOURS

The take home here is balance your hormones and elevate your metabolism.

Any questions let me know.

Stay strong, Stay positive.

The consumption of high-glycemic foods spikes insulin and reduces glucagon thus preventing the burning of body fat.

Do you have trouble with your diet?
Do you find it hard to eat the right snacks?

Knowing this simple little list may help you shake off a few pounds.

The consumption of high-glycemic foods spikes insulin and reduces glucagon thus preventing the burning of body fat. Try to stay away from high-glycemic foods and stick to lower glycemic choices (click here for list) that will produce less insulin.

Insulin stimulates your 30 billion fat cell receptors and deposits carbohydrates energy directly into their interiors, making you fatter and fatter. There is no other way to store fat. Every time you eat a meal, your blood sugar rises. Your goal is to consume the foods (low-glycemic, which will cause the least amount of insulin production.

Any high-glycemic foods should only be consumed in minimum quantities and combined with dietary proteins and fats in a meal. The only exception is a high-glycemic drink or food after exercise. But remember, even to much of the low-glycemic goods can make you fat.

Need help with other nutrition ideas or plans let me know.

It seems that for many, breakfast can be a challenging meal. What we've been told to eat, and what actually fuels us are two very different things...

Is Breakfast the best meal of the day for you?

If not lets make it so…

It seems that for many, breakfast can be a challenging meal. What we’ve been told to eat, and what actually fuels us are two very different things.

Therefore, I am offering some guidelines to reduce the confusion regarding what to eat and what not to eat. The key to this way of eating is to plan ahead.

#1 Consume 16-24oz of water upon rising and eat breakfast within 1-hr of waking.

This is a great way to get ¼ of your daily hydration in one shot. It will help increase stomach acid production, which will help aid in food digestion and nutrient absorption.

It’s important to fuel the muscles and brain with protein and fat as well as some carbohydrate, depending on the person. Eating breakfast helps stimulate metabolic function – or maintain an optimal functioning internal environment; including energy production, emotional well-being and fat burning.

#2 Consume quality meat + raw nuts or meat + veggies

The body needs amino acids among other key nutrients from animal protein (eggs, chicken, beef, lamb, fish, pork, turkey, elk, bison). This will keep the body from metabolizing muscle mass for energy as well as keep you satiated for longer periods of time by stabilizing blood sugar levels – and keep you from consuming too much carbohydrate from refined grains/sugars.

Opt for free-range, organic, grass-fed meat and pastured eggs whenever possible. Leftovers work great and are quick and easy.

Protein is thermogenic, which will cause the body to actively burn more fat simply through the process of digestion.

You should soak raw nuts in water and dehydrate them for optimal digestion – or at least take digestive enzymes to help break down the phytic acid that makes them hard to digest. Avoid pre-roasted nuts; they are often roasted in highly processed oils that go rancid in the heating process.

Rotate your foods daily (i.e., if you have beef on Monday, don’t eat again till Thursday or Friday)

# 3 Minimize all grains (refined or otherwise), fruit, juice, and artificial sweeteners

These will wreak havoc with blood sugar as well as inflame the digestive system for sensitive individuals (up to 60% of the US population).

Avoid pre-packaged breakfast foods or anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS).Fructose is metabolized differently in the liver than sugar – it will make you sick and fat.

Aspartame is a neurotoxin and should be strictly avoided (i.e., crystal light, diet coke, equal, sweet n’ low, etc…)

#4 Choose organic coffee or green tea if you desire caffeine

Coffee is beneficial as one of the only bitter herbs in our diet. Quality coffee and green tea are antioxidants that protect our cells from damage, can help stimulate liver function and can help prevent the incidence of diabetes.

Avoid commercial coffee/tea; highly chemically treated (sprayed with pesticides)

Use with heavy raw or organic cream or coconut milk to blunt cortisol/blood sugar response associated with these stimulants.

Limit caffeine to the morning as it can interfere with stress hormones, energy and sleep patterns if consumed to late in the day.

Confused yet? Here’s a sample breakfast menu to help clarify:

NOTE: If you are a vegetarian, then I recommend doing shakes for breakfast in addition to amino acid supplementation. A good shake is: fresh or frozen mixed-berries with leafy greens veggies (like spinach) all blended together. Use water or coconut milk as the base, add a scoop or two of rice/pea protein powder and you’re good to go!

Post a Comment about your thoughts. Do some research yourself and I bet it will blow your mind.

Turkey Cold for 2 Weeks

It is my strong recommendation that you discontinue your milk products. If you find this difficult, I would start for several weeks only, and reevaluate how you feel at that time.

This would include ALL dairy, including skim milk and Lact-Aid milk, cheese, yogurt, and ice cream. If you feel better after several weeks you can attempt to rotate small amounts of one form of milk every four days.

You probably are wondering what will happen to your bones and teeth if you stop milk. The majority of the world’s population takes in less than half the calcium we are told we need and yet they have strong bones and healthy teeth.

Cows’ milk is rich in phosphorous which can combine with calcium — and can prevent you from absorbing the calcium in milk. The milk protein also accelerates calcium excretion from the blood through the kidneys.

This is also true when you eat large amount of meat and poultry products. Vegetarians will need about 50% less calcium than meat eaters because they lose much less calcium in their urine.

It is possible to obtain all your calcium from dark green vegetables (where do you think the cow gets their’s from?). The darker the better. Cooked collard greens and kale are especially good. If you or your child is unable to take in large amounts of green vegetables, you might want to supplement with calcium.

You should take about 1,000 mg a day depending on your age, check with your healthcare professional. For those who already suffer from osteoporosis, the best calcium supplement is microcrystalline hydroxyapatite. Great book the Osteoporosis Solution.

Dr . Oz Favorite Vitamin is D!

It is vital that you take vitamin D in the winter months from November to March. Normally your skin converts sunshine to vitamin D, but the sunshine levels in the winter are very low unless you visit Florida or Mexico type areas.

Most people are not aware that the milk of most mammals varies considerably in its composition. For example, the milk of goats, elephants, cows, camels, wolves, and walruses show marked differences, in their content of fats, protein, sugar, and minerals. Each was designed to provide optimum nutrition to the young of the respective species. Each is different from human milk.

In general, most animals are exclusively breast-fed until they have tripled their birth weight, which in human infants occurs around the age of one year. In no mammalian species, except for the human (and domestic cat) is milk consumption continued after the weaning period. Calves thrive on cow milk. Cow’s milk is designed for calves.

Cow’s milk is the number one allergic food in this country.

It has been well documented as a cause in diarrhea, cramps, bloating, gas, gastrointestinal bleeding, iron-deficiency anemia, skin rashes, atherosclerosis, and acne.

It is the primary cause of recurrent ear infections in children. It has also been linked to insulin dependent diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, infertility, and leukemia.

Hopefully, you will reconsider your position on using milk as a form of nourishment. Small amounts of milk or milk products taken infrequently, will likely cause little or no problems for most people.

However, the American Dairy Board has done a very effective job of marketing this product. Most people believe they need to consume large, daily quantities of milk to achieve good health. NOTHING could be further from the truth.

Public health officials and the National Dairy Council have worked together in this country to make it very difficult to obtain wholesome, fresh, raw dairy products. Nevertheless, they can be found with a little effort. In some states, you can buy raw milk directly from farmers.

Whole, pasteurized, non-homogenized milk from cows raised on organic feed is now available in many gourmet shops and health food stores. It can be cultured to restore enzyme content, at least partially.

There are some thoughts to consider and even do your own research why should you believe me?

Processing Is the Problem

The path that transforms healthy milk products into allergens and carcinogens begins with modern feeding methods that substitute high-protein, soy-based feeds for fresh green grass and breeding methods to produce cows with abnormally large pituitary glands so that they produce three times more milk than the old fashioned scrub cow. These cows need antibiotics to keep them well.

Their milk is then pasteurized so that all valuable enzymes are destroyed (lactase for the assimilation of lactose; galactase for the assimilation of galactose; phosphatase for the assimilation of calcium).

Literally dozens of other precious enzymes are destroyed in the pasteurization process. Without them, milk is very difficult to digest. The human pancreas is not always able to produce these enzymes; over-stress of the pancreas can lead to diabetes and other diseases.

The butterfat of commercial milk is homogenized, subjecting it to rancidity. Even worse, butterfat may be removed altogether.

Skim milk is sold as a health food, but the truth is that butter-fat is in milk for a reason.

Without it the body cannot absorb and utilize the vitamins and minerals in the water fraction of the milk. Along with valuable trace minerals and short chain fatty acids, butterfat is America’s best source of preformed vitamin A.

Synthetic Vitamin D

Is known to be toxic to the liver, is added to replace the natural vitamin D complex in butterfat. Butterfat also contains re-arranged acids which have strong anti-carcinogenic properties.

Non-fat dried milk is added to 1% and 2% milk. Unlike the cholesterol in fresh milk, which plays a variety of health promoting roles, the cholesterol in non-fat dried milk is oxidized and it is this rancid cholesterol that promotes heart disease.

Like all spray dried products, non-fat dried milk has a high nitrite content. Non-fat dried milk and sweetened condensed milk are the principle dairy products in third world countries; use of ultra high temperature pasteurized milk is widespread in Europe.

Other Factors Regarding Milk

Milk and refined sugar make two of the largest contributions to food induced ill health in our country. That may seem like an overly harsh statement, but when one examines the evidence, this is a reasonable conclusion.

The recent approval by the FDA of the use of BGH (Bovine Growth Hormone) by dairy farmers to increase their milk production only worsens the already sad picture.

BGH causes an increase in an insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) in the milk of treated cows. IGF-1 survives milk pasteurization and human intestinal digestion. It can be directly absorbed into the human bloodstream, particularly in infants.

It is highly likely that IGF-1 promotes the transformation of human breast cells to cancerous forms. IGF-1 is also a growth factor for already cancerous breast and colon cancer cells, promoting their progression and invasiveness.

It is also possible for us to absorb the BGH directly from the milk. This will cause further IGF-1 production by our own cells.

BGH will also decrease the body fat of cows. Unfortunately, the body fat of cows is already contaminated with a wide range of carcinogens, pesticides, dioxin, and antibiotic residues. When the cows have less body fat, these toxic substances are then transported into the cows’ milk.

BGH also causes the cows to have an increase in breast infections for which they must receive additional antibiotics.

Prior to BGH, 38%of milk sampled nationally was already contaminated by illegal residues of antibiotics and animal drugs. This will only increase with the use of BGH. One can only wonder what the long term complications will be for drinking milk that has a 50% chance it is contaminated with antibiotics.

There is also a problem with a protein enzyme called xanthine oxidase which is in cow’s milk. Normally, proteins are broken down once you digest them.

However, when milk is homogenized, small fat globules surround the xanthine oxidase and it is absorbed intact into your blood stream. There is some very compelling research demonstrating clear associations with this absorbed enzyme and increased risks of heart disease.

Infant Ear Infections

Ear specialists frequently insert tubes into the ear drums of infants to treat recurrent ear infections. It has replaced the previously popular tonsillectomy to become the number one surgery in the country.

Unfortunately, most of these specialists don’t realize that over 50% of these children will improve and have no further ear infections if they just stop drinking their milk.

This is a real tragedy. Not only is the $3,000 spent on the surgery wasted, but there are some recent articles supporting the likelihood that most children who have this procedure will have long term hearing losses.
